Where this started

OpenReferium grew from a straightforward observation: the trades businesses that keep Ireland's buildings, homes and infrastructure running are often the same businesses least equipped to manage the administrative side of compliance.

An electrician who has been wiring houses for twenty years knows his trade inside out. He holds every certification required, carries insurance, keeps his registrations current — but the documentation to prove all of that might be spread across three different locations, some of it out of date, some of it missing entirely.

This isn't carelessness. It's a structural gap. Trades businesses are built around doing the work, not managing paper. The regulatory environment in Ireland has grown considerably more complex over the past decade, and the documentation burden on sole traders and small businesses has grown with it.

We built OpenReferium to close that gap — specifically for Irish trades businesses, with a process and system designed around how they actually operate.

We come to you

Every project starts with a collection visit. We come to your premises — whether that's a workshop, a home office, or a storage unit — and collect your documents. You don't send anything by post. You don't drive anything anywhere.

We sort and scan everything

Once we have your documents, we sort them into categories, remove duplicates, and scan everything at high resolution. Documents are named consistently and indexed so they can be found quickly. Expiry dates are recorded for every time-sensitive document.

We build around your trade

The filing system we build isn't generic. The folder structure, the document categories, and the reminder schedule are all configured around your specific trade — electrician, plumber, builder, mechanic — and the documents that matter for your compliance obligations.

We hand over something simple

The system we deliver is deliberately straightforward. It's designed to be maintained by someone who isn't an administrator and doesn't want to be. If you can use your phone to send an email, you can use the filing system we build.
